چکیده

Close-to-ground measurements of the atmospheric space charge density simultaneously made with the direct filtration and Faraday cage techniques are reported. The data obtained on fair-weather days show that the measured values from the two techniques are small and agree with each other within the limits of experimental error during windy and turbulent conditions in the afternoon hours, but are large and vastly different, both in magnitude and polarity, during the calm and stable conditions at nighttime. The disagreement between the data obtained from the two techniques is explained due to the nonfulfillment of the requirement of maintenance of the entire Faraday cage in a region of uniform space charge density. It is concluded that the selection of a measuring technique for space charge in a study should be based on the requirements of the problem to be studied. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Study by simulation the influence of temperature on the formation of space charge in the dielectric multilayer Under DC Electric stress

Multidielectric polyethylene is a material that is generally employed as insulation for  the HVDC isolations. In this paper, the influence of temperature on space charge dynamics has been studied, low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) sandwiched between two electrodes were subjected to voltage application of 5kV (14.3 kV/mm) for extended duration of time ...

Comparative Analysis of Current Density Meters Operating in Space Plasmas

For experimental investigations of wave processes in space plasma one of the main tasks is the determination of dispersion relations between the wave vector and the frequency. The frequency analysis of fluctuations of magnetic field and electric current density in plasma is very efficient in this case. The measurements of the magnetic field fluctuations usually are made by a variety of magnetom...

Characteristics of Atmospheric Microplasma in Small Discharge Gaps

Emission spectroscopy analysis and imaging technique were used to study the microplasma phenomena. The microplasma discharge in Ar and N2/Ar was analyzed along the discharge gap area and also for specific periods of time during the discharge. Microplasma showed characteristics specific with an atmospheric glow discharge: positive column, Faraday dark space and negative glow. Spatial and tempora...

An Absolute Charge Sensor for Fluid Electrification Measurements

A new instrument, the Absolute Charge Sensor (ACS), has been developed that measures the net charge density entrdned in a fluid flow, independent of the fluid’s electrical properties, velocity, and any electrification processes within the instrument. Through a shielded sampling probe, the ACS periodically transfers a small volume of charged fluid to an electrically isolated Faraday cage with no...

Advanced Faraday cage measurements of charge and open-circuit voltage using water dielectrics

Distilled water, tap water, Sargasso Sea water and 0.9% NaCl solution contained in a Nalgene 30ml polyallomer centrifuge tube are found to maintain distinct negative non-zero equilibrium charges as measured within a grounded patented Faraday cage. Here, the Faraday cage is composed of two identical in-line hollow, gold-plated Faraday cup electrodes which enclose the sample that moves between th...
